It’s been a while

Posted in Odds, Writing with tags on September 14, 2013 by The Prince of Pithy

So it’s been two-and-a-half months since I posted anything here.  The main reason is that I’ve been posting everything on my Bubblews account, where I can actually make some money.  😀  But I will try to have more regular posts here.

Of course, given that this is the fifth time I’ve tried to post this, I may not want to post here.  My computer has a glitch which – sometimes – puts on the caps lock even when I don’t have it on.  Sometimes, I can put on the caps lock and things will show up lowercase, but it doesn’t always work for punctuation.  It’s weird, and can be very annoying.  That’s what happened with my first, second, and fourth attempts at this post.  I’d put in the title, and select the categories and tags, and then I’d start typing only to have it come out “SO IT”S …” So I was thinking the third time would be the charm, but just after I wrote the :D, we lost power for a second.  I had to restart my computer, blah, blah.  I just wanted to do a quick, “I’ll try to post more often” post, but it’s been ten minutes.  But I’ll end this by saying, I’ll try to post more often.

I’m just testing something.  Ignore this post.

Mutant Dandelion!

Posted in Odds with tags , on May 8, 2013 by The Prince of Pithy

I was walking outside and I came across a mutant dandelion.

So I took a few photos of it.

But I paid for it because it ate my fingers!

Poor headline, or am I just a geek?

I just saw this and had to do a double take.

Stupid updates

Posted in Odds, Rant with tags on April 10, 2013 by The Prince of Pithy

Earlier this afternoon, I had been hearing distant thunder for some time.  I checked the weather map, and there was a line of strong storms heading my way.  Just to be safe, I figured I’d turn my computer off.  I was finishing up a few things online when the rain started falling.  It was building up to a nice shower when I finally clicked to turn off my computer.  I was looking out my window and I happened to glance over at my computer where I saw “Installing 1 of 9 updates.”

“You’re doing that now!”

As the second update was going through, we were hit by a strong gust of wind that blew the rain sideways.  There was also an almost constant rumble of thunder, and I saw several bolts of lightning out my window.  During the fifth update, there was a short hail storm with quarter-inch sized hail.  The sixth update took five minutes or more, and by the time the updates were all done, it seemed the storm was over.  A few minutes later, a weaker storm moved through.

We didn’t lose electricity, but it was annoying.

Does anyone else think like this?

I have a couple WordPress blogs.  Thirty or so minutes ago, I was making some updates to them.  I made the update for this one without any problem, but when I went to log into the next one, it came up that it couldn’t find the site.  That’s odd, I thought.  I was able to open this blog, so I figured it must just be a glitch and I would just have to wait to make the update.  So I went to check my email, but something happened when I tried to sign out, saying it couldn’t find the site.  Okay.  I check Google Reader without any problem, then tried to check Facebook.  Couldn’t find the site.  My internet connection is kinda crappy some days, so I usually just assume my connection has broken, but all the lights were on.  And then I couldn’t get any site – even the ones I was just on – to come up.

Now, my first thought was just that there was some issue with my internet connection.  I should just unplug it, wait a few seconds, and let it reset.  But my second though – neither close nor distant – was to wonder if this was an attack, either a massive cyber attack or a nuclear EMP blast crashing all the internet sites.  So while my connection reset, I turned my TV on and checked the news channels which just had their normal 2:30 AM crap.

Once my internet was back up, I was able to get back the sites without issue.  Problem solved.  But I wonder if anyone else has similar thoughts when their internet goes down.  For weeks after 9/11, the first thing I did when I woke up was to turn on the news to see if something else had happened.  There was an expectation that something else would happen.  I guess that hasn’t gone away.

Why does my 5 Day Forecast
