LP1

My short, scifi story “Lonely Phoenix” is now available for $0.99 on Kindle.  Here’s the description:

Partway to a new colony world, board member Geoffrey Ames is woken from hibernation by the caretaking crew of the Lucian.  They require him to look into the matter of their fellow crewman Morgan Heller.  Morgan’s claims – such as being over 1500 years old – would normally land him in the psychiatric ward, except he can back up some of his other claims.

Stupid updates

Earlier this afternoon, I had been hearing distant thunder for some time.  I checked the weather map, and there was a line of strong storms heading my way.  Just to be safe, I figured I’d turn my computer off.  I was finishing up a few things online when the rain started falling.  It was building up to a nice shower when I finally clicked to turn off my computer.  I was looking out my window and I happened to glance over at my computer where I saw “Installing 1 of 9 updates.”

“You’re doing that now!”

As the second update was going through, we were hit by a strong gust of wind that blew the rain sideways.  There was also an almost constant rumble of thunder, and I saw several bolts of lightning out my window.  During the fifth update, there was a short hail storm with quarter-inch sized hail.  The sixth update took five minutes or more, and by the time the updates were all done, it seemed the storm was over.  A few minutes later, a weaker storm moved through.

We didn’t lose electricity, but it was annoying.

Short stories for April

For the first three months of this year, I promoted my three short story anthologies.  But since I’ve run out of them, this month I’ll be promoting four of my short stories.

OunceMed

Like most people, Jason Fisher wanted to make the world a better place. But he doubted he would ever have the chance to make much of a mark. Then a “woman” came to him, asking his help to save humanity by threatening it.

An Ounce of Prevention” is available on Nook for $0.99.

Pricecover

“The Price to Pay” is a flash fiction story dealing with a consequence of detecting an alien signal.

The Price to Pay” is – ironically – free on Smashwords.

Rise3

“Rise” is a stand alone story set in Stephen L. Thompson’s Human Republic Universe.  The story follows some of the events after the tragic deaths of the colonists in a small colony in a distant star system.

Rise” is available on Kindle for $0.99.

EnigmaCover

“Enigma” is set in a larger universe, and consists of two parts. Part I follows Carlos Molina, a maintenance man at a comet mining facility. He is sent out to fix a problem with one of the automated miners. In the process, he discovers a cube embedded in the comet’s nucleus.

Part II is set five years later and follows Doctor Susan Black, Director of Cube Studies. With the upcoming anniversary of the discovery of the Molina Cube, she is deluged by news requests for comments. During this she gives an interview to a student from her alma mater concerning the nature of the Cube.

When we do travel into space, we will discover many things we will never be able to explain. We need to learn how to accept that basic fact.

Enigma” is $0.99 on Kindle.
