Hankering for a machete

For the past few months, I’ve felt a growing urge to buy a heavy machete. As a guy, I do get a kick out of weaponry, especially the older stuff: swords, battle axes, maces. But I don’t own any. I’ve seen a lot at the Ren Faire, for example, but I’m not the kind of guy to buy a sword, hang it on the wall, and say, “Isn’t that cool?” I’m a practical guy. If I bought a sword, it would be so I could use it. Since I don’t know how to use a sword, I don’t buy any. But it doesn’t take years of training to use a machete. And I’d actually have a use for it. Okay, once in a great while I’d chop some branches to cut through some brush, but it would be a tool I would use and not just a piece of art I’d hang on the wall.
