Bagpipes and Harpsichords
Two weekends ago, some friends and I went to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. (Here’s a little photo essay I wrote about the visit.) One of the acts I caught were the Tartan Terrors. While listening to them, I remembered hearing once that people either love or hate bagpipe music. I guess I love it then. Another unusual instrument I enjoy is the harpsichord. One of my college roommates was a music major, and I asked him once if anyone had ever combined the two. He looked at me – not so much as if I was crazy – as thought such a combination would unravel the fabric of the universe.
I was telling all of this to a friend at work last week, and he had to pause for a few moments to think out his reply. What he came up with was to ask, “Do you like chocolate?” “Yeah.” “Do you like bacon?” “Yeah.” “Do you like chocolate covered bacon?” I had to admit I had never tried – nor thought – of that. I tried to counter that I like chocolate and peanut butter, separately and combined but he maintained that bagpipes and harpsichords are like chocolate and bacon.
Anyway, I spent a few minutes looking for bagpipe and harpsichord music, but couldn’t find any. So if you ever come across some, let me know.
